Joyce Miller

About The Author

Life does not need to be
perfect to be meaningful

Born in 1929, Joyce Renée Miller grew up in a world shaped by discipline, displacement, and the shadow of war. From a strict childhood in Woolwich to evacuation and rural life in wartime Norfolk, Yesterday’s Child traces one woman’s journey through hardship, responsibility, and quiet resilience.

Leaving school at fourteen, Joyce entered work early, learning independence the hard way. Marriage and motherhood followed, bringing love, sacrifice, and the daily realities of raising a family with limited means. Through illness, financial uncertainty, and constant change, she carried on with determination, humour, and an unshakeable sense of duty.

This deeply personal memoir captures the texture of ordinary life across extraordinary times. With warmth, honesty, and reflection, Joyce recounts not only what happened, but how it felt to live through it. In later years, faith, reflection, and renewal offer a sense of peace and perspective.

Yesterday’s Child is a testament to endurance, family, and the quiet strength of a life faithfully lived.
